Join in the Flaunt films online with Guest Curator Kath Duncan at ACMI Cinema 3.

Flaunt screening: 29 September – 6 October 2022.

‘Flaunt takes courage, commitment and the desire to be understood’, Guest Curator Kath Duncan said. ‘If you’ve got it, flaunt it!’

Deaf and Disabled people are constantly on display – we either look different, or move differently, or communicate differently, or feel differently, and experience the world differently.

‘Shyness is over-rated! Not every Deaf and Disabled person wants to Flaunt. Flaunt features films from people who do: performers, storytellers, stars, divas, Freaks’, Kath Duncan said.

All Flaunt films are made by Deaf and Disabled people either as key creatives, collaborators, and performers.

The Other Film Festival (TOFF) is a ground-breaking disability-led program. TOFF was born in 2004. Since then, it has become a leader in the global disability screen advocacy movement. TOFF centres authentic storytelling and representation.

Flaunt Screening Program

Charm Circle (2021) is a cinéma vérité portrait of an eccentric New York family navigating the chaos that divides them.

I Didn’t See You There (2022) is an unflinching meditation on spectacle, (in)visibility, and the corrosive legacy of the Freak Show. As a visibly disabled person, filmmaker Reid Davenport sets out to make a film about how he sees the world, from either his wheelchair or his two feet, without having to be seen himself.

A curated program of acclaimed Australian films including Imagined Touch (2022), Sparkles (2020), My One Legged Dream Lover (1999), Archiving the Body (2021), The Do’s & Don’ts of Getting Married (2022) and Dry Fire (2021).
