In 2020, Art Day South was commissioned by Bayside City Council to produce a series of public art sculptures for a brand new accessible playground at Thomas St Reserve.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the artists worked on this project remotely, coming together on Zoom each Friday. The studio artists each developed small clay sculptures of fantastical creatures, some of which you can see in this exhibition. The group then worked collaboratively with Mark Cuthbertson and Rhian Hinkley to produce 6 sculptures that contained parts of each artist’s individual sculptures. Mark and Rhian turned those 6 sculptures into human-size concrete creatures that were installed at Thomas St Reserve’s new accessible playground.
