I’m a multi-disciplinary artist working with performance, sculpture, drawing, poetry, mixed media, and textiles and I focus on critical thought and lived experience in my artistic practice. I combine more than one of the disciplines mentioned into one work, often using textile or drawing pieces even sculpture pieces as the screens, even a portion of those as screens for projecting my performance videos onto.
It was an awesome experience filled with curiosity and wondering how I would turn out in the format and style by Adam, and excited because I have always loved his work.
“What does it mean to you to have your portrait displayed as a public artwork?” Proud! It feels like we are all being heard and our voices being raised about our Deaf/Disabled experiences. I feel it is important now, timely now to be seen and heard, both as the artist (Adam) and the voices (disabled people as subjects) and to bring up the profile of Deaf/Disabled artists as equals to abled artists, rather than patronised or tokenism and Adam’s work has shown how powerful people with disability’s artworks are.
