Music Makers – Disability in the Music Industry Research

Music Makers – Disability in the Music Industry was a Mentoring, Professional Development, Outcome and Research Project.

The Music Makers research focused on access in the music industry. We researched music industry engagement with Deaf and Disabled communities, particularly Deaf and Disabled Music Makers. We reported on the online access of selected music venues within Victoria, what barriers exist in the industry and how to create greater access for them.

Music Makers is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

Arts Disability and Young People – Where are we now?

Art Disability and Young People is a Pilot Program in partnership with Vic Health, as part of Future Reset. We created a Youth Advisory Committee that reports to the AAV Board. We ran Co-design Workshops, conducted research on where the sector is currently and created a program we will be launching in 2023.

Choose Film Research and Toolkit- Access in Film Festivals.

Choose Film was a research project targeting disengaged audiences for film festivals. The aim of this report was to investigate the barriers that Blind/Low Vision and Deaf/Hard of Hearing audiences face, what the partnering organisations are currently providing, and how engagement can be improved. Choose Art is an online Australian arts directory designed for and by Deaf and Disabled people.

Our mission is to make arts possible with the NDIS. To make sure Deaf and Disabled people have choice and control, to place information directly into the hands of Deaf and and Disabled people.

Accelerating Cultural Change is an Access Grants Pilot Program and Research Project in partnership with Creative Victoria.

The Last Avant Garde – Showcasing Disability and
the Performing Arts in Australia

The Last Avant Garde is a research project investigating disability arts. The research component is titled Disability and the Performing Arts in Australia: Beyond the Social Model. It is funded by the Australia Research Council and is part of a long-running collaboration between Arts Access Victoria, and the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney.

Deaf and Disabled researchers ran a series of workshops to develop collaborative, accessible and inclusive ways of making and thinking about arts practice. This research builds on and formalises Deaf and Disabled knowledge and lived experience for creativity and art-making in Australia and beyond.

Own Voices: A toolkit for creating disability access and inclusion within publishing

The Own Voices Toolkit is a practical resource for the Australian publishing industry about how to improve access and inclusion for Deaf and Disabled people. The Toolkit Came out of Publishability is a ground-breaking initiative, aiming to support cultural change within the publishing industry.

Publishability is a partnership between Writers Victoria and Arts Access Victoria, funded by Creative Victoria.

Art & You: A Planning Guide is a downloadable workbook and guide for Deaf and Disabled people to help them advocate for art in their lives. Art & You was developed in collaboration with Deaf and Disabled artists.
