Artist in Focus – Michel Tuomy
Meet Michel Tuomy (he/him). His play 'Little Brother, Big Sister' recently showed at La Mama Courthouse Theatre.
What kind of art do you make?
I am the playwright of ‘Little Brother, Big Sister’ the theatre play which [showed] at La Mama Courthouse Theatre in June 2023. A tale of a brother with schizophrenia and his sister who is his carer. The show had a three performance season in 2021 which was cut short due to a Covid Lockdown.
What do you like about this artwork?
I believe this work is an honest portrayal of someone living with schizophrenia and those that have the unenviable task of being their carer. The play shows the dynamic of this relationship as we travel the emotional journey of each character. the play is masterfully directed by Cathy Hunt, who gets the most out of the actors Adam Cass and Myf Powell.
