Nimbus

Nimbus is an inclusive visual arts studio. At Nimbus, you will develop your artistic skills in visual arts and expand your portfolio. You will explore your individual arts practice with a group of committed artists.

Timeline and Dates

Nimbus follows the Victorian school term timetable. This means Nimbus runs for 4 terms a year. Each term is roughly ten weeks.

Each session is six hours long. We encourage you to stay for the full session. You can take as many breaks as you need.

Art Forms Studio Works With

Nimbus is a visual arts studio you will be able to work with any visual arts medium that does not require specialty equipment like kilns, or chemicals.

What We Provide

We provide basic art supplies. We encourage you to bring your own, especially if you are working on a particular medium or project. Materials we provide include:

  • paper in different sizes
  • drawing and painting materials
  • clay
  • recycled materials ready for repurposing
  • pens
  • pencils
  • brushes
  • small press

One of the best parts of Nimbus are the facilitating artists and arts support workers. They are all established artists with many years of experience. They will be able to:

  • Provide artistic support
  • Help you create and achieve goals – both long-term and short-term
  • Work with you to develop an individual pathway program for you
  • Offer insight into Melbourne’s artistic communities
  • Help you find opportunities
  • Share their experience

Why You Should Join

Nimbus is Based at the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre. You will get to experience exhibitions in a whole new way. This is a one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity. You will get to develop new skills and create work for public outcomes. You can connect and create with your peers in a safe and welcoming environment.

The main focus of Nimbus is individual practice. But throughout the year there will be opportunities to work as a group.

Some examples of the support and opportunities you will get at Nimbus are:

  • Learn new skills and art-making techniques
  • Work with established artists to explore and develop your artistic practice.
  • Regular check-ins on personal artistic goals
  • Develop and prepare works for public outcomes
  • Apply for external public exhibition opportunities
  • Go on outings to experience art throughout the year
  • Learn and network with artists at all career levels.

The Studio Venue

Bundoora Homestead Art Centre has accessible bathrooms and there is a cafe on-site. There is on-site car parking. The 86 tram’s stop 63 is 650 meters from the Homestead.

Nimbus takes place inside the Homestead workshop space called The Mess and out on the grounds inside Nebula, our fully accessible and mobile art space.

Access

The studio space is fully accessible with accessible bathrooms. Staff are professional artists as well as trained support. We will work with you to make sure your access needs are covered.

History

Recent Exhibitions, Performances and Screenings

Nimbus has recently presented in-person and online exhibitions, including

  • Nimbostratus, 2023, presented in partnership with the City of Darebin and Bundoora Homestead Arts Centre. You can view the exhibition online via our website.
  • Spill, 2022, presented at SEVENTH Gallery.
  • Ether 2021, presented in partnership with the City of Darebin. You can view the exhibition online via our showcase.
  • Either 2020, presented at Fringe Festival 2020 and online via our website.
  • Past and present Nimbus artists have been presented works at Thrive festival, as part of The Museum of Us and much more.
