Madeleine Stewart

The annual Stella Young Award aims to recognise a young Australian disabled artist for their impact on disability activism. Madeleine Stewart is a Disability advocate and award-winning comedian.

With over a decade of experience in standup comedy, you may have seen Madeleine perform with Adam Hills, Rove McManus, or Reuben Kaye or caught her hosting the podcast: Our Voices Our Lives Our Way. She is working with the ABC this year with the StoryTeller scholarship, and videos will be released in November.

The announcement was made last week at the event Fridays at The Collective:Past. In their award acceptance speech, Madeleine said:

“I’m so thrilled to receive this award. I’ve always been so much a fan of Stella and her work, and to follow her path that she so gently laid out for us as artists in the industry, especially comedians. I am without words, thank you!”

We are excited to see what Madeleine will achieve over the next 12 months and into the future!

We received many outstanding applications and would like to thank everyone who applied.

The award is made possible by the amazing work and legacy of Disability Media Australia (formerly Grit Media). We thank everyone involved with the organisation and those involved in the production of ‘No Limits.’
