Art Everywhere (2010 – 2015)
AAV created Nebula – a portable arts space. The wheelchair accessible space launched at Federation Square in 2012. Nebula is a performance space and workshop space.
The Pathways program created new career possibilities for artists. Jocelyn Lee presented a major exhibition at Federation Square.
‘Hansel and Gretel’ by Victorian Opera presented a relaxed performance for the first time. This was in partnership with Arts Centre Melbourne.
Some important research occurred. ‘Beyond Access: the creative case for inclusive arts access’ was with the University of Melbourne. Dance Haptics with Deakin University trialed portable haptic devices. They were made with deafblind, blind and low vision audiences. The federal government’s 2013 Creative Strategy mentioned ‘tolerance’ in relation to Deaf and Disabled artists. Shocked, AAV swung into action. The ‘Beyond Tolerance’ forum was hosted by Stella Young. The Government removed the word tolerance from the strategy. It created new funding for Deaf and Disabled artists.
