AAV announces the 2019 Stella Young Award winner
We are proud to announce that this year's winner of the Stella Young Award is Vanessa Jo Di Natale.
Vanessa Jo Di Natale works across many mediums, including comedy, writing and performing arts in screen, film and digital media. She has written a script called 'Breeders', which explores the societal value placed on disabled people. The play will be presented at La Mama in 2020. Vanessa spends the rest of her time working as a freelance writer and is completing her Masters in International Relations, where she wants to fight for more disabled voices in politics.
When our panel met, they thought 'what would Stella do?', 'who would she want to have the juicy conversations with?' and 'who is continuing Stella's legacy, extending the dialogue, challenging the status quo?' And our panel unanimously decided Vanessa Jo Di Natale was that person. We are excited to see what Vanessa will achieve over the next 12 months. We have no doubt she will be creating art that amplifies the voice of disability pride.
