A group exhibition of work by emerging artists of Edwards Lodge Supported Residential Services.

The residents of these services are extremely vulnerable individuals for whom previous reengagement with communities has been highly problematic.

Arts Access Victoria, with the support of The Department of Health, began working with Edwards Lodge in August 2012 to provide in house, weekly art classes and the opportunity to develop their own professional arts practices in a supportive environment. Artists In Unison is the direct result of that important initiative.
Framing for the exhibition has been generously funded by Merri Health Community Services Supporting Connections Program.

Exhibiting Artists:
Alan Bourne

FIRST IN GETS THE SEATS ON THE NIGHT. NO ADVANCE BOOKINGS.

Darien’s fascination with comedy started at around 8 when he finally comprehended his first “knock knock” joke, after which he embraced comedy with a passion, immersing himself in films and DVD’s and live shows whenever his funds and age-restrictions permitted.

His comedic influences are quite eclectic, starting with Buster Keaton, Monty Python, Mr. Bean andSpike Milligan and extending through Mike Myers and, Robin Williams to the present wide panoply of contemporary stand-up.

He aspires to being to autism what Steady Eddy and Francesca Martinez are to cerebral palsy.

Autism gifted Darien with two invaluable attributes for a stand-up comic: a great stage presence with a complete fearlessness of performing and an almost-obsessive attention to things which fascinate him, which has enabled him to steadily work through decades of comic history, learning as he went.

He has a unique voice and perspective on the world … a wry, left-field world view that is somehow reminiscent of classic Irish humour.

Mondayitis Productions presents

TIM FERGUSON

‘Carry a Big Stick’

Directed by Marc Gracie

He’s back. Wiser. Funnier. A Sick Man with a Sick Mind. A year on from his SELL-OUT hit at the Melbourne Comedy Festival last year, Tim Ferguson is back with his
laugh out loud and poignant biographical show, CARRY A BIG STICK.
In this year’s version of CARRY A BIG STICK Tim will deliver his trademark sharp insights on
the human condition – and his own condition. On his never-ending battle with MS, he says
“you can laugh, or you can cry. Laughing takes fewer tissues”.

He has battled Multiple Sclerosis for much of his adult life and as he says in his show, “It’s not
for wimps.” He adds… “I love the bear pit of stand-up comedy. In my case it’s stand-up then
sit-down comedy. Yes, it’s that edgy.”

Tim delivers his adventures with wicked wit and admirable honesty – from touring the world as
a Doug Anthony Allstar to his life as a TV network celebrity.
Half-gigolo, half-pimp, half-mathematician, Tim Ferguson has lived. Armed with a big walking
stick – and occasionally a chair with wheels, this master comedian is fierce, fearless and funny
and has wowed audiences and commentators all over the world.

ADAM HILLS – HAPPYISM

Adam’s back from the UK and live onstage with his first solo show in three years – Happyism.

One of our greatest comedy exports, Adam had a mammoth 2012. The 2012 European summer culminated in the greatest Paralympic Games ever. Adam Hills was front and centre of this historic moment as the host of Channel 4’s The Last Leg, a daily and different review of the ground-breaking coverage of the Games, challenging the perceptions of disability. The success of The Last Leg gave rise to Adam hosting Channel 4′s alternative to the Queen’s Christmas Day message at the end of last year – a first for an Australian. Adam Hills is also the only Australian to have ever had his own stand-up show on UK TV, Channel 4’s Adam Hills Stand Up Live (2012).

Hills has been a prolific force on Australian TV – a five time Gold Logie nominee and host of two hit ABC1 shows, Spicks and Specks and Adam Hills In Gordon Street Tonight. But when Adam isn’t dominating the Australian TV landscape he is usually travelling in the world, mic in hand, in his day job as a globetrotting stand-up comedian.

Happyism is Adam’s long overdue, and highly anticipated, return to the stage at home in Australia, debuting at the iconic Princess Theatre during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He will also be back fronting ABC1’s Adam Hills Tonight later in the year.

It’s only a matter of time before we lose Adam Hills to the world – so get in quick!

TOMMY LITTLE – SEX, DRUGS & HERBAL TEA

As seen on Network Ten’s The Project. As heard on Nova 100.

Sex? Sure. Drugs? Great. But rock ‘n’ roll? Not this guy…Tommy’s two favourite things are chamomile tea and gangster rap, which would be perfect if he had a deaf grandma to hang out with. But he doesn’t. Thanks for bringing it up…

2012 was a big year for Tommy Little. The kind of year that sees young stars go completely off the rails. Thankfully he’s only guilty of driving under the influence of one too many ‘herbals’ of the liquid variety.

With a strong following on the local stand-up circuit and sold-out shows at home, 2012 saw Tommy make his Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut – receiving rave reviews and hosting one of the oldest (and most revered) late night comedy rooms in the world – Late’n’Live.

A natural on TV, his credits include writer and host for Channel 31’s talk show Studio A (that launched the careers of Rove McManus and Hamish and Andy), a judge on The Beer Factor (Go!), a regular presenter of the Friday Whip segment on Network Ten’s The Project and he has just released his first DVD, A Fistful of Apologies, through Madman.
Take note, Tommy Little is going places…and not just to the kitchen to put on another pot of tea.

Gavin Baskerville – Crunch Time

Following on from his critically acclaimed 2012 show Hanging In There, Hobart based comedian Gavin Baskerville returns with a new hour of “well polished” (Herald Sun) insightfully witty stand-up.

Gavin tries to be a good person, but being ethical in the modern world isn’t easy. At some point all of our morals are tested. Gavin would like to be more ethical, but he also likes driving his car and eating junk food.

The way he sees it, he can either take action and change the world or sit on the couch eating potato chips. Either way it’s Crunch Time!

First Dog on the Moon: Cartoobs and other typos

First Dog takes to the stage!

Walkley Award winning cartoonist and self-proclaimed National Treasure, First Dog on the Moon (aka Andrew Marlton), will perform his one-person show Cartoobs and other typos at the upcoming Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Cartoobs and other typos scored the Tour Ready Award at the 2012 Melbourne Fringe Festival, winning an invitation to take the show to the Adelaide Fringe in February. The Sunday Mail heralded it as a top 20 Fringe show about “what happens when you listen to the marsupials in your head”.

First Dog will perform Cartoobs from March 28 to April 21 in the straight-after-work-need-a-laugh 6pm slot at the Victoria Hotel in Little Collins Street.
“He’s the mysterious cartoonist that makes Crikey a must-read every day, and now he’s giving us an honest-to-god show,” according to TimeOut Melbourne, which also lists it as a top 20 must-see.

An hilarious and whimsical journey through the mind of one of Australia’s leading political cartoonists, Cartoobs inducts audiences into the mysteries of cartooning, battling a daily deadline and having the voices of hundreds of marsupials inside your head. Audiences may or may not even meet the ABC Interpretive Dance Bandicoot.
Song, dance, colouring-in and pretending to know what you are doing while being adorable all feature in this crisp satirical descent into despair and back out again whew that was close.
