DCD Community & School Workshops

Sacred Heart Primary School hip hop workshop
Deaf Can Dance (DCD) is a group of Deaf and hard of hearing dancers who originally came together through their shared interest in dance. They have since gone on to create unique and award winning dance theatre such as Sound of Silence, which was performed to sell out audiences at the 2008 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Deaf Can Dance is now taking its awesome dance skills to schools and community groups through fun and energetic Dance Workshops. Deaf Can Dance can present basic hip hop workshops at your school or community group for a suitable budget. Not only will you learn some great dance skills, it’s a rewarding experience for everyone involved – Deaf dancers teaching Hip Hop skills to hearing participants!
The dancers combine their skills in hip hop, funk, krumping, breakdancing, locking, popping and contemporary styles with Auslan signs, sign poetry and visual vernacular (forms of sign language storytelling) to create a new expressive dance form.
DCD have presented workshops at Sacred Heart Primary School, Shepparton High School, St Albans Catholic School as well as in regional areas such as Warragul, Traralgon, Sale and Bairnsdale.
These school children respond particularly well to music and dancing as many of them come from newly arrived families and are still grappling with language difficulties. We were absolutely thrilled by their response to the workshop!
