Artist Profiles

Dandenong artist Joceline Lee and Dingley artist Kristy Sweeney have been selected to participate in AART.BOXX 11, a national exhibition of visual arts by artists with a disability, to be held in Sydney from 20 October to 5 November 2011.

Joceline and Kristy are two of only fifteen artists from throughout Australia selected to be featured in this prestigious annual exhibition.

Both Joceline and Kristy are young emerging artists with an intellectual disability from the Dandenong & Dingley areas, who attend Arts Access Victoria’s Art Day South program every Friday at the Dingley Village Neighbourhood Centre.

Joceline and Kristy have been invited to Sydney to take part in the exhibition opening and the associated professional development and networking events. They cannot travel unaccompanied so there is also a need to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the two carers who must travel with them.

Inclusion in the AART.BOXX 11 exhibition is an important and encouraging development for both Joceline and Kristy as contemporary artists, and as artists with a disability. Participation in, and access to, arts and cultural activity by people with a disability are integral to supporting and maintaining a society which fosters creativity, innovation and community enrichment.

You can help Joceline and Kristy get to Sydney by sponsoring, or making a contribution to their travel costs. All donations above $2 are tax deductible.
