Minister calls for input on Draft Victorian state disability plan 2013-2016

12 June 2012

Community Services Minister Mary Woolridge this week announced the community consultation phase of a new government plan to help support people with a disability. Releasing the Draft Victorian state disability plan 2013-2016 the state government hopes the community will offer insights into the disability sector.

Ms Wooldridge said the focus of the Victorian State Disability Plan 2013-2016 would be to ensure people with a disability could participate in the community. The plan will also outline how the state will prepare for a national disability insurance scheme.

The draft plan has four key policy areas, to develop strong foundations for learning, jobs and health; to protect the rights of disabled people and promote their participation in the community; to improve access to neighbourhoods, public spaces and transport; and for a successful transition into the NDIS.

“This is an exciting opportunity to improve the way we support people with a disability and to make sure Victoria continues to lead and drive the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” Ms Wooldridge said.

“I invite input from across the Victorian community.”

Ms Wooldridge said consultation into the draft plan was open until July 11, 2012. The final report will be released by the end of the year.
