How Do We Hear Genius?

Calvin2-280x290.jpg

‘Silent Inspiration’ poses the question: what is it like to not be able to hear your own work of genius in the same way others understand it?

This is the experience of celebrated Australian composer Calvin Bowman who will talk about how hearing loss is influencing his creativity at a special post-concert Q&A event after ‘Silent Inspiration’.

Thirty-nine year old Calvin Bowman is the first Australian to graduate with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale, and he is going through hearing loss as his career blossoms. ABC Classics FM ‘Keys to Music’ presenter, Graham Abbott, will lead the interview and will graciously share his own insights into life as a musician with hearing impairment.

This special event will take place in Melbourne Recital Centre’s ground floor foyer shortly after the concert concludes (at approximately 8.30pm) and will run for approximately 20 minutes. Tickets for the concert are available from Melbourne Recital Centre (03) 9699 3333 www.melbournerecital.com.au. A discount is available for AAV Members. Admittance to the Q&A event is free.
