Hahna Briggs

I am passionate about accessible performing arts. I graduated with a Masters in Dance Studies, University of Otago, New Zealand in 2010. My thesis focused on integrated dance in New Zealand. I have also completed a Bachelor in Physical Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation.

I performed for Suzanne Cowan for her Caroline Plummer Fellowship event, ‘House of Memories’, June 2010. In addition, I have choreographed a number of integrated dance works. My most recent work was a performance based presentation, ‘Creative Illusions’ for the Inaugural Disability Conference, ‘Everybody In’, University of Otago, November 2011. For this playful duet I collaborated with dancer, Jenny Newstead. We focused on combining our different approaches to integrated dance and using Newstead’s mobility devices as tools of play.

I Produced, Directed and Choreographed for dance performance event, ‘Dances About Love’. This was a self-directed project that I undertook with two other dance artists, Lisa Wilkinson and Brendan Kydd. We were funded by Creative New Zealand (Creative Communities), the Dunedin City Council and the University of Otago. May – November, 2011. ‘Dances About Love’ featured stories of love within the LGBT community and was hugely successful with sell out audiences over a three show season.

I was a dance tutor at the University of Otago from 2007-2011, working primarily with first year Physical Education students and was the Dunedin Coordinator for the South Island Dance network from 2009-2011.
