AAV seeks Performing Artist

Arts Access Victoria is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Performance Artist to coordinate the arts program for Get Out!
Get Out! is a visual and performance arts program offering respite to family and voluntary carers of adults who have a disability. It is for adults with a disability, including those with an intellectual, physical, sensory disability or an acquired brain injury who live in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
The role of the performing artist will be to:
- provide participants with an innovative, creative, empowering, participant-driven arts program that involves active choice and participation
- provide each participant with the opportunity for their personal, artistic, and social skills to be taken into consideration and for the group to work at a broad level reflecting their diversity
- provide adults with a disability with a visual and performing arts program facilitated by professional, experienced artists and support workers – participants will primarily be adults with an intellectual disability, however adults with physical, sensory, neurological disabilities and an acquired brain injury will also be welcome
- provide a respite program for family and voluntary carers, which satisfies their need to ensure the person with a disability is involved in an appropriate activity.
- provide a visual and performing arts program for adults with a disability living in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne
- develop and deliver a participant driven arts event in the form of a public outcome at the end of the programming year (November/December 2012)
The performing artist should possess:
- a passion and enthusiasm for inclusive arts practice, and a strong interest in working creatively with adults who have a disability
- a proven ability to develop contemporary arts projects and deliver them
- an ability to work with both individuals and groups
- a comprehensive arts practice, preferably with arts qualification
- experience and skills with a range of performing arts
- experience facilitating arts projects with diverse communities
- experience in, and commitment to, working collaboratively with the visual artist, support workers and the participants
- an awareness of Disability Service Standard requirements
Project Dates and Hours of Work:
Fortnightly on Saturdays 9:00am – 4pm, including a half hour paid lunch break. Participants are in attendance from 9:30-3:30pm.
