Deaf Arts Network, together with the Australian Deaf Games invites you or your school to participate in a unique and exciting opportunity.
Deaf and hard of hearing students throughout Victoria are invited to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the Australian Deaf Games in Geelong on 14 January 2012.
Read below for details on how your school can be involved!
Background
Deaf Arts Network has been invited to produce the opening and closing ceremonies of the Australian Deaf Games. Working in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Strange Fruit Theatre Company, our aim is to put on the most spectacular games show that the Australian Deaf community has ever seen. All we need now is your interest, and involvement.
What are we planning to do?
As part of the opening ceremony, we will create an original and amazing HIP HOP performance with as many deaf and hard of hearing students as want to be involved. We want to show the audience the energy and creativity that deaf young people have to offer. With an audience of 2,000 people in attendance, this will be an experience that students will never forget!
How can you be involved?
Deaf and hard of hearing students in have an opportunity to attend FREE workshops run by performers from Deaf Can Dance. These workshops will be in each region. If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your school, please contact me to arrange.
Students will be taught the choreography for the opening ceremony in a supportive and fun environment with Deaf dance tutors. The choreography has been specially designed for children and young people, no matter their dance skills, so everyone can participate.
Teachers and students will also be given a DVD of the choreography, so that they can continue to practice their moves at school or at home after the workshop has been completed.
On January 14, transport will be arranged from Melbourne to Geelong (return) for the event.
What is the next step?
Do you have interested students that;
