About Heartsong

HeartSong has been running for 4 years and approx 10 – 15 people attend each week. The group is aimed at participants who are in recovery from psychiatric illnesses and works in partnership with IMPACT Mental Health Service. Based in the community, the program fills many creative, social and health needs of the participants. The aim of the program is provide high quality creative experiences to people who otherwise would be excluded from such opportunities.

HeartSong needs new Singing / Music Leaders who are dynamic enough to motivate and challenge the group to learn new musical skills – how this happens will be up to the Artists however some of my suggestions would be to introduce harmony work, call and response songs (e.g. world music) with percussion and possibly a diverse Contemporary music selection.

Ultimately, the participants use HeartSong to enjoy music in a safe environment and meet each other – these two elements are core to how HeartSong functions. There are some gifted singers in the group and it would be great if the program could build their skills so they are able to make more Musical choices around their recreation time.
