Send in your application today!

Arts Access Victoria is looking for new people to be part of Experiencing Arts.

What is Experiencing Arts?

Experiencing Arts is all about getting more people with disabilities to the best of Melbourne’s visual and performing arts venues, festivals, and arts events.

The project regularly visits the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), The Victorian Arts Centre, Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), Malthouse Theatre, and small Artist Run Initiatives in the CBD.

Each session is designed to encourage discussion on contemporary art practices, de-mystify public art spaces, and trigger creative responses to inform your own art making. Equally important is the social aspect of the day – opportunities to debrief on the gallery visit over coffee at inner-city cafes or jot down ideas in visual diaries and reflect on the day’s events.

Importantly, Experiencing Arts provides the freedom and support to experience art in your own time and in your own way. The project is driven by the interests of its members and is flexible.

Who is Experiencing Arts for?

Whether you’re an artist, a performer, or just love arts and cultural events, then this project is just what you need to feed your artistic appetite.

Experiencing Arts gives priority access to people with intellectual disabilities.

How does it run?

art in the city!

Each session is led by a professional visual artist and two qualified support workers. With no more than 10 members in each session , the group meets monthly on Saturdays, from 10.30am – 4pm. The meeting and finishing point is always the Flinders Street Station clocks.

Members of the project are expected to either:

  1. travel independently to & from the activity;  OR
  2. be supported to and from the meeting point with their own carers

When does it start?

First session kicks off Saturday 23 October, and meets monthly until June 2011.

How much does it cost?

If you want to join the program you’ll need to pay $135.00 up front. This covers the cost of coordination, staffing, and tickets when required for 9 sessions.

On average, it costs only $15 per session.
