Larissa MacFarlane
I am primarily a printmaker, having in recent years fallen in love with the processes of etching, mezzotints, lino and woodcuts.
Living in Footscray, my work is inspired by the local landscapes of Melbourne’s West, as well as influenced by ideas of belonging and place, healing and change, and a determination to celebrate what we have here and now.
My journey as a visual artist began over a decade ago after acquiring a brain injury that not only changed my identity and relationships, but literally the way that I see the world. Colours, shapes and textures suddenly held more meaning and intensity.
Over the past five years I have regularly exhibited, including 3 Solo shows in Williamstown café galleries. In 2006, I won the Connected 06 Peoples Choice Award and in 2008 and 2009, I was awarded the RASV Printmaking prize. I have also received many Honourable Mentions such as at the 2009 Art in Public Places Award, the 2007 Incinerator ‘Depot’ Exhibition, and the 2008 and 2009 Mental Health Week Art Award. My art is also on permanent display in the Maribyrnong City Council Art Collection.
I am also motivated by the poetry of the everyday challenges that we face both as individuals and globally. It is not just about the burdens that dare us but also the gifts that can surprise us!
