ROARHOUSE – VOLUNTEER CALL OUT

3 February 2010

From Marjetka McMahon, Project Director, Roarhouse:

Our Volunteer Program 2010 begins in February and we have a good team on board ‘busting’ to get the year up and running. We are looking for some volunteers with specific skills and some who just want to develop skills.

Roarhouse has been running a volunteer program for the past 12 months. It has been a very successful year, especially winning the ‘Melbourne Fringe Award ‘Best Special Event for 2009′. Hooray…!!

We have loads of gigs and special events on this year again. We are opening gigs at new venues and hope to do gigs at the Noise bar, The Retreat, Pure Pop in St. Kilda, Theatreworks and more.

If you are interested in community development, specifically arts/ cultural projects which are pro-active, inclusive and diverse and have a strong social justice voice then Roarhouse is for you….

We work out of the Port Melbourne Neighbourhood House, crn Nott & Liardet St, Port Melbourne. The program begins at 11am and ends between 3.30pm /4pm every Tuesday. If you are receiving unemployment benefits this volunteer program can be registered as a legitimate work for the dole program.

We are specifically looking for the following volunteers:

1. Administrators - individuals who are interested in developing administration skills with a community development/ arts/cultural focus. This role involves the general office, bookkeeping component as well as a community development officer /liaison component.
Skills: Administration skills preferred but not essential.

2. Event Coordinators - particularly any who have organised events in the past. All skills will be developed through the year. All the event coordinators are working in small project groups to facilitate the events on the Roarhouse calender.
Skills: Preferred but not necessary

3. Promotion/Publicity & Marketing Volunteers – volunteers who are particularly interested in promotions and marketing. We would prefer individuals with some promotion/publicity experience however, skills will be developed through the year. All volunteers will be working with a Marketing professional during the year.
Skills: Preference given to those with some publicity skills

4. Production Manager – a production manager who can

  • manage & facilitate the sound engineering at all gigs
